TLID0021 Store and Handle Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances

Hazardous Substances training (TLID0021 Store and Handle Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances) provides participants with the skills and knowledge to store and handle dangerous goods and hazardous chemicals, including identifying requirements for working with them, confirming site incident procedures and selecting safe handling techniques.

This training is delivered on site to company groups and is contextualised to suit your workplace. It includes WHS requirements, applying codes of practice, and procedures for the safe handling of dangerous goods and hazardous substances (where work is performed under general supervision).

TLID0021 Store and Handle Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances is a Nationally Recognised course and replaces the unit TLID2003 Handle Dangerous Goods/Hazardous Substances in 2022.

Course Topics – Hazardous Substances Training

1. Requirements for working with dangerous goods (DGs) and hazardous substances

  • Legislation, standards, codes of practice.
  • Material safety data sheets, labeling, placards and signage, registers.
  • Classes and characteristics of goods and substances.
  • Understanding health effects (particularly if not used or handled correctly).
  • An overview of the newly adopted Global Harmonised System (GHS) for classifying Hazardous Chemicals.
  • Undertaking Risk Assessments.

 

2. Safe Storage and Handling techniques

  • Suitable handling and shifting techniques and procedures, including personal PPE and mechanical aids.
  • Storage, separation and segregation.
  • Process for unidentified chemicals and safe disposal.

 

3. Site incident procedures

  • Incident reporting
  • Safety and environmental requirements
  • Emergency equipment and processes, including spill kits and fire fighting equipment (FFE)
  • Dangerous goods/hazardous substance manifests
  • Quick Decision Exercises (QDEs) for a typical chemical emergency

Who should attend Hazardous Substances Training?

This course is designed for anyone working in the transport, warehousing, distribution, construction and storage industries who is required to handle or store dangerous goods and/or hazardous substances. Training may also be customised to suit any other industry or workplace where handling of workplace substances is undertaken.

How is course content covered?

Hazardous substances training is conducted face to face at your workplace. The course includes formal training, practical demonstration, practical exercises, group discussion and assessment.

Due to the practical nature of the course we allow for class sizes of up to a maximum of 12.

Entry Requirements, Support and Inclusion

This course is delivered in English and includes a written assessment. Participants will require comprehension, reading and writing skills to successfully complete the training. There are no other prerequisites or co-requisites.

How are participants assessed?

Assessment is undertaken via a range of methods including short answer quizzes, case studies, group
activities and group discussion in the workplace or simulated workplace.

Course Duration: 7 hours.

Delivery methods: This training is delivered on site (face to face) for corporate groups.

On-site courses can be delivered in Sydney and across NSW. Our Sydney based trainers can also travel to Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth.

Inclusions: On site training with a qualified and experienced instructor, quality course notes, practical and written assessment and a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment certificate.

Award: Statement of Attainment in TLID2021 Store and Handle Dangerous Goods and Hazardous Substances.
