Hazardous Substances Training

Many people use hazardous substances on a daily basis yet often do not know how dangerous they can be to their short and long term health if not handled and stored correctly. This course introduces both supervisors and employees to the fundamental safety precautions that should be implemented in every workplace where hazardous substances are used or stored.

This hands on, half day hazardous substances workshop will introduce participants to a range of typical hazardous substances they may find in their workplace. Participants will read actual product labels and Material Safety Data Sheets to determine emergency procedures (including first aid, fire fighting and spillage) and how to safely store and handle typical hazardous substances. Practical exercises relating to storage and compatibility are also undertaken using Codes of Practice.

- OHS Legislation re. hazardous substances.
- Health effects of hazardous substances.
- An overview of typical hazardous substances found in the workplace.
- Reading labels and MSDS's.
- Maintaining a Hazardous Substances Register.
- Risk assessments and typical controls.
- Storage.
- Emergency procedures.
